Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that:
A)Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads
from 2
overhead electric hoists, one in the area of the Mori Seiki MH-50
Horizontal and
Verticle CNC Machine and the other in the area of the Weiler Precision
Lathe,
in the years prior to April 4, 2001.  These overhead hoists were used to
lift
machined parts onto the CNC and Lathe.  The company had not had these
overhead hoists, support structures, and wire ropes inspected on a
frequent and
periodic basis to determine wear, deterioration and malfunction as per ASME
B30.16-1998.
One method of abatement, among others, to correct this hazard, is to
inspect the
hoists on a frequent and periodic basis as required by ASME B30.16-1998.
No certification required.  Violation Abated.on
