Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that: the employee was
exposed to a fall hazard and a thrown from hazard of 18 feet.
(a)On or about April 4, 2002, at the worksite located at Lincoln Crest
Apartments, 2091 102nd Street, West Allis, WI, 53214, on the
north side of the building, a worker was installing aluminum siding
from a Genie Model Z 34/60 articulating boom platform (self-
propelled) and used no personal fall arrest system.  Without such
protective equipment, the worker was exposed to the hazard of a
falling to the asphalt about 18 feet below the employees working
level.
Among feasible abatement methods, one method would be to
comply with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
A92.5 - 1992 Standard for Boom-Supported Elevating platforms
and the warning stickers and operators manual on the aerial lift
and have the employee wear personal fall arrest equipment
whenever employees are in an aerial lift.
No certification required.  Violation Abated.on
