North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North
Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees
conditions of employment and
a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to a
fire and explosion
hazard from explosive aluminum/magnesium dust:
a)rotoblast machines and grinding/buffing area - employee(s) were
operating two
Pangborn, model 3GN-3R, barrels, rotoblast (abrasive blasting) machines
with
inoperable dust collection systems in that they were leaking and emitting
aluminum/magnesium airborne dust thus creating a fire and/or explosive
condition. The rotoblast machines were used to blast aluminum/magnesium
parts
during the inspection.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this
