North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The employer
did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place
of employment free from recognized
hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical
harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to struck by hazards in that:
a)down-hill body shop - Western Manufacturing Company hydraulic frame
lifts and yellow in-ground
hydraulic lifts with no nameplates were used to lift vehicles and were not
inspected daily, monthly or
quarterly as specified by the manufacturer's recommendations and ANSI/ALI
ALOIM-2000.
b)up-hill body shop - Rotary Lift P502 hydraulic frame lifts were used to
lift vehicles and were not
inspected daily, monthly or quarterly as specified by the manufacturer's
recommendations and
ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000.
One feasible abatement method would be to follow the guidelines for
specifications set forth in the ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 "American National
Standard
for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and
Maintenance", which was adopted  by the Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. a
trade organization representing the
Automotive Service Industry.  Included in the  Periodic Qualified
Inspection section, there are the recommended
frequency of inspections (based on use) and a list of inspection
points.ion

and did not have a load rating posted on the lift as specified by the
manufacturer's recommendations
and ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000.
One feasible abatement method would be to follow the guidelines for
specifications set forth in the ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 "American National
Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation,
Inspection and
Maintenance", which was adopted  by the Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. a
trade organization representing the
Automotive Service Industry.  Included in the  Operation section is a list
of items that the operator needs to be aware
of, which included such items as  readability of the rated load capacity
of
