Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of falling off and being run over by a front-end loader while riding on the step of the machine. a)On or about September 9, 2000, at the jobsite the employer allowed an employee to ride on the step of a front-end loader. ABATEMENT: One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to prohibit any employee from standing on equipment such as a front- end loader while the equipment is in motion. National Safety Council Publication; DataSheet I-589,copyright 1977, "Front-end Loaders" prohibits passengers from riding on equipment.
