Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to approximately 30 employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of being infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis through unprotected contact with a patient who was suspected to be infectious with tuberculosis and no early identification of the disease were detected. No respirators were being used during the care of a patient. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to identify early symptoms of the disease and quickly place patient in a negative pressure isolation room until laboratory tests can be obtained." Employees were exposed to this patient for approximately 5 to 7 days before placing patient in isolation room.tion
