Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a low oxygen environment. a) Instrumentation shed at CHD1 Unit of HPR Complex - Employees entering the shed were potentially exposed to a low oxygen environment. Nitrogen was occasionally introduced in the shed which displaced the ambient air. On or about 05/22/02. NOTE:ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM. See page 2,"Notification of Corrective Action" for instructions. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to install an independent backup air system that supplies breathable air into the instrumentation shed.
