Employees mixing caustics on McVay Drilling Rig #10, were not provided with
adequate personal protective equipment when mixing caustic materials.
The lack of proper personal protective equipment is contrary to the
American
Petroleum Institutes Recommended Practices 54, which states: Protective
gloves,
apron, or other protective equipment, as appropriate, should be worn by
employees handling chemicals that may irritate or be absorbed through the
skin.
