General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: In Plant 2: The gas heat tubs used for heating parts near the welding booths were not equipped with gas piping as recommended in NFPA 86-1969, Paragraph C of section 310-5. The employer used rubber hoses instead to supply gas to the heating tubs. In many instances, there were no connectors to secure the rubber hose to the heating tube connector. This condition created a fire hazard to employees working in plant. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard would be to replace the rubber supply hose to the heating tubs with a suitable piping as recommended in NFPA 86A-1969
