Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a fall hazard:
a)On or about 3/28/2000, 1501 Howard Road.  A platform (pallet) attached
to the
forks of Sky Trak lift, #7033, was being used to lift and transport an
employee.
The platform was not provided with standard guard rails on all open sides
to
prevent the employee from falling.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to:  1) Utilize a safety platform which meets the requirements of ANSI
ASME B56.6 - 1992
Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks, Part III, paragraph
8.25.1; 2) Instruct and
train employees in the proper use of fork lifts including the use of
safety
platforms; 3) Follow
the requirements of ANSI ASME B56.6 - 1992, paragraph 5.15.1 for elevating
personnel.
NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
