Title 21 VSA Chapter 3, Sub chapter 5, Section 223a of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to: an unguarded opening between the planer exit feed rolls and the feed rolls leading to the stacking chain. Location: Planer room at the exit feed of the planer and the rolls leading to the stacking chain. Violation; The opening between the planer exit feed rolls and the stacking chain feed rolls, measuring 24 inches wide and used by employees as a means of access to the entrance of the planer room, was unguarded and exposed employees to accidental contact with lumber rapidly moving along the rolls. Among other feasible methods to correct the hazard... The employer could install a gate across the opening on each side, and include proper warning signs.g
