Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that :
Employee(s) were exposed to eye and face injuries associated with the use
of corrosive and
caustic chemicals due to the lack of inspections of eyewash and emergency
showers on a regular
or frequent basis. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method
of abatement would
be to comply with the precepts of the following sections of ANSI Z 358.1,
Emergency Eyewash
and Emergency Showers:
4.7.1 - Showers shall be activated weekly to flush the line and to verify
proper operation.
5.5.1 - Plumbed eyewash units shall be activated weekly to flush the line
and to verify
proper operation.
