General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: Advanced Engineering Company failed to take the necessary steps to ensure employees are kept free from exposure to crane related hazards by following the guidlines of the American National Standard Safety Code for Overhead and Gantry Cranes, ANSI B30.2.0-1967. These discrepancies included the failure to: 1. Conduct monthly inspection of the crane hook on crane 3101 and certify those inspections through a certification which includes the date of the inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection, and the serial number or other identifier of the hook inspected. 2. Correct defects critical to employee safety pointed out by an outside contractor before resuming crane operation. 3. Conduct monthly inspections of rope conditions with written, dated, and signed reports. 4. Conduct monthly inspections of the hoist chain on crane 3101 and validate those inspections through a written certification record which includes the date of the inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection and an identifier of the chain which was inspected. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
