Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees:
Advanced Engineering Company failed to take the necessary steps to ensure
employees
are kept free from exposure to crane related hazards by following the
guidlines of the
American National Standard Safety Code for Overhead and Gantry Cranes, ANSI
B30.2.0-1967.  These discrepancies included the failure to:
1.  Conduct monthly inspection of the crane hook on crane 3101 and certify
those
inspections through a certification which includes the date of the
inspection, the
signature of the person who performed the inspection, and the serial
number or
other identifier of the hook inspected.
2.  Correct defects critical to employee safety pointed out by an outside
contractor
before resuming crane operation.
3.  Conduct monthly inspections of rope conditions with written, dated, and
signed reports.
4.  Conduct monthly inspections of the hoist chain on crane 3101 and
validate
those inspections through a written certification record which includes
the date of
the inspection, the signature of the person who performed the inspection
and an
identifier of the chain which was inspected.
