Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees assembling hydraulic lift tables are exposed to pinch point hazards when the supports fail and the table collapses. Among others, the following are feasible and acceptable methods to minimize injury during assembly operations. 1. Develop written procedures for the safe assembly of the lift tables. The procedures must include the method and materials that will be used to support the scissor jack mechanism while installing the cylinders. 2. Use a material hoist for additional support during the assembly process. 3. Train all affected employees on the requirements set forth in the procedures and related safety precautions. 4. Enforce employee use of the procedures.
