Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by: Tank Department- Welders are exposed to being struck by material lifted by the floor mounted, pedestal, underhung jib crane. The jib crane would not remain stationary when loaded or unloaded, in that it would swing to a certain spot when released from any neutral position. Note: As required by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B30.11-1998, any condition disclosed by the inspections and is determined to be a hazard to continued operation shall be corrected by adjustment, repair, or replacement before continuing the use of equipment. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to: a) Train employees to return the cranes to a location where they will not drift or provide tie stations to prevent the crane from moving until the problem can be corrected. b) Installation of a control measure as indicated above.ted
