SCRR 71-112A: Failed to furnish a place of employment which is free of recognized hazards which may cause death or serious physical harm to his employees and comply with this regulation and other occupational safety and health rules and regulations promulgated under Chapter 15 of Title 41, Code of Laws, State of South Carolina, 1976, as amended, as follows: A. Employer knew or should have known that one chemical engineer, while dispensing 498 hydrofluoric acid into solution and using the solution for an etching process in the Quality Control lab was exposed to the hazards of necrosis, tissue damage and decalcification of the bone from skin contact. A feasible and useful method to correct the hazard, among others, is to (1) provide 2.5calcium gluconate gel and maintain procedures for its use, thus eliminating or reducing the effects of skin exposure to hydrofluoric acid.
