General-duty citation text
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a), Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:06/14/00 Condition:Inadequate roof truss bracing which exposed employee to crushing and/or falling hazards during the installation of a prefabricated truss roof system and installation of roof sheathing. The system being installed contained a single set of spacer bracing from truss to truss. The bracing was inadequate due to its length of approximately 26" per truss and brace, each truss was only braced to its ensuing truss. No diagonal bracing was provided. Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the manufacturers recommendations on how to properly roof the trusses. See Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
