General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to overhead hazards from the pick-up heads of the setting machine. a) Employees of The Denver Brick Company were required to work under the pick-up heads of the Dinosaur Setting Machine while loads of brick were traveling over their heads. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to place mats that are wired into the pick-up heads under the heads to sensor when employees are in the danger zone, and stop the heads from traveling. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
