Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employee were exposed to injuries from trusses that were not adequately braced: 1) On or about May 29, 2001, and times prior thereto, employees of T.K. Construction were exposed to injuries when trusses being set collapsed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that trusses being installed are braced according to the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 guidelines for temporary bracing of trusses. This document states that lateral bracing spaced 5 feet apart is required for the top chord of a 52' span truss, as well as lateral bracing spaced 15 feet apart for the bottom chord. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
