Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees while standing on the top portion of tanker trucks during the loading of bulk flour material. a) On or about June 26, 2000, an employee was observed standing on the top of a tanker truck while filling it with bulk flour. This condition exposed the employee to a fall hazard of approximately 12 feet. Abatement Note: Among others, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard might be to: 1) Install a protective railing system as found in 29 CFR 1910.23(e) to completely enclose the portion of the tanker truck being walked on. 2) Install a horizontal lifeline system to be used with a full body harness equipped with a rear D-rig and lanyard. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
