Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electric shock due to the lack of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection on circuits in wet location(s) such as, but not limited to, the East Wing Shower Room: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to install GFCI protected outlets and/or circuit breakers on all receptacles and equipment in required areas per the National Electrical Code Handbook (NFPA 70-1996), 517-20. a)Parkview Care Center, Denver, CO: On or before 07-06-00 the employer did not ensure that 110-volt a/c electrical outlets in wet locations such as but not limited to the East Wing Shower Room were supplied with GFCI overcurrent protection devices. Condition exposes employees to the hazard of electric shock. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is not required for this item.
