Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: On or about March 14, 2001,frequent and periodic inspections were not being performed on approximately 17 hoists. a.Exterior Hoist #1 b.Exterior Hoist #2 c.Hoist by lathe #10. d.Hoist by lathe #9. e.Hoist by lathe #8. f.Hoist by lathe #7. g.Hoist by lathe #6. h.Hoist by lathe #5. i.Hoist by lathe #4. j.Hoist by lathe #3. k.Hoist by lathe #2. l.Hoist by lathe #1. m.#6 ton,#10 ton and #2 ton hoist in weld shop area. n.Hoist by drill press. o.Hoist by Summit Lathe (near restrooms) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement is to conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists in accordance to the guidance from ANSI B30.16.
