Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing and burn hazard: At this place of employment, the employer was not making the recommended operational checks of the operator safety bar on the McNeil curing presses as called for by the McNeil Akron Product Information Bulletin #17 dated April 1971 and ANSI B28.4, covering the safety standards for construction, care,and use of hydraulic molding and curing presses in the rubber industry. One feasible method of abatement is to conduct weekly inspections of the safety bars.
