Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a serious hazard of flying shards: At this plant, in the hollow metal door shop, employees were exposed to a possible serious hazard of flying shards created by the use of schedule 80 PVC pipe to create a distribution system for compressed air. One feasible method of abatement is to use approved metal piping for the compressed air system.
