AS 18.60.075(a)(4):  An employer shall do everything necessary to protect
the
life, health and safety of employees including, but not limited to
furnishing to
each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free
from
recognized hazards which, in the opinion of the commissioner, are causing
or are
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees.
EXAMPLE:  Employees are exposed to workplace violence hazard that is
likely to
cause death or serious physical harm.  An employee (primary care giver) was
injured when caring for a consumer in a home health care setting.  The
consumer
is a developmentally disabled person.  The consumer had an aggressive
episode in
which the employee attempted to restrain the consumer.  During this
incident the
consumer threw the employee over a coffee table.  The consumer then
tripped the
employee, causing the employee to fall over a bookcase that had been
knocked
over.  The consumer then threw herself on the employee.  The employee
sustained
a hernia which required corrective surgery from this incident.
