AS 18.60.075(a)(4): An employer shall do everything necessary to protect the life, health and safety of employees including, but not limited to furnishing to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards which, in the opinion of the commissioner, are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. EXAMPLE: Employees are exposed to a workplace violence hazard that is likely to cause death or serious physical harm. An employee was injured when caring for a patient in the hospital. The patient is mentally ill. The patient had an aggressive episode in which the employee was assaulted by the patient. During this incident, the patient attempted to gouge out the employee's eyes. The patient continued to assault the employee, which resulted in an eye injury and broken ribs.n
