AS 18.60.075(a): Safe employment. An employer shall do everything necessary to protect the life, health, and safety of employees including, but not limited to: Furnishing to each employee employment and a place of employment that are free from recognized hazards that, in the opinion of the commissioner, are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees. EXAMPLE: The employers foreman instructed twenty (20) employees to lift by hand a 60 foot long wall (weighing approximately 3000 pounds, 18 foot 5 inches high, made with 2 x 8's framed 24 inches on center) instead of using the available 40 Ton crane at the jobsite. Eight (8) employees where injured when they tried to lower the wall back to the floor level; when it was determined that the wall was too heavy for 20 employees to lift.
