Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to collapse of wood roof trusses: a)Construction Site, Millcreek Golf Course Clubhouse, 3100 West 17th Street, Erie, PA - Employees installing wood roof trusses were not following manufacturer's recommendations for temporary bracing. Company's plan was to install all trusses with minimum temporary bracing. Then go back and install rest of temporary bracing instead of installing all temporary bracing at beginning and as work progressed. Among other feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are to: a)Follow temporary bracing recommendations in HIB-91 "Recommendations for Handling, Installing, and Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses". Temporary bracing shall be installed at beginning and as work progresses.
