General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Flying metal projectiles from a Porter Cable air compressor tank that had been compromised by the welding of handles directly onto the pressurized tank containing compressed air. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1. Have compressed air tank and handles replaced by manufacturers authorized service center personnel. 2.Permanently remove this air compressor from service and replace with air compressor constructed in accordance with 1968 A.S.M.E. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII.
