Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fractures and crushing injuries due to overhead doors not equipped with any safety device to stop or reverse closing: Service Bay - The service bay doors were not equipped with any safety device to stop or reverse closing bay doors when they contact or detect an individual or object in the path of the closing door. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: the installation of a retrofit edge sensor or photoelectric beam sensor on the bay doors.
