General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the operation of a hoist system that had not been inspected to determine the weight limits that would restrict the use of the overhead hoist. The employer failed to ensure that the overhead hoist system that was installed in the dipping area was inspected on a routine bases as per ANSI B30.16-1998. The employer failed to certify the weight limits that would restrict the use of the overhead hoist. One method of abatement would be written certification by a structural engineer indicating the limits that would restrict the use of the overhead hoist. ****ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED****
