Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: Employees were exposed to weld failures due to employees and equipment that welded on the automated storage and retrieval system rack structure that were not certified to weld on material of thickness that was welded on. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Insure that employees and equipment performing welding are certified to weld on the material to be welded. Specifically, certify employees and equipment to American Welding Society D1.3 for materials "which are equal to or less than 3/16 in. (0.188 in./4.8 mm) in nominal thickness."
