Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to a fall from elevation: a) Plant Building - An employee was exposed to a fall of approximately 20 feet while removing Christmas decorations. The employee was standing on 6 pallets and was being elevated by a Hyster forklift. The employee was not using a safety platform or other fall protective devices. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, feasible methods to reduce this hazard are to utilize personal fall protection equipment, or utilize the available safety platform, as referenced in Safety Standards for Powered Industrial Trucks ANSI B56.1-1992 sections 4.17.1(b).
