Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a falling load:
(A)Imperial Plaza: On 8 November 2001, a nylon web sling was cut while
lifting
a 7000 pound load causing the load to fall approximately 13 floors.
ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD, AMONG OTHERS, TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO:
Follow the manufacturer's warning to ensure web sling wear pads are
secured to the
sling or load at the point where the sling will contact any sharp surface
of the load.
Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required
for this item.
