Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of exploding plastic pipe: a.On or about August 7, 2002, throughout the shop, the employer used poly vinyl chloride pipe schedule 40 to transport compressed air, exposing employees to the hazard of exploding plastic pipe. Among other methods, 3 feasible means of abatement would be: 1. An acrylonitrite butadiene styrene (ABS) pipe could bu used. 2. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe that is completely enclosed in a conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration. 3. Metal piping could be used. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.TION
