Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushed or amputated limbs if caught between the platform edge and the framework located in the ground or floor. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to install a toe sensor as described in the American National Standards Institute ANSI MH29.1- 1994. When this sensor comes in contact with anything it stops the downward motion of the platform.
