Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the condition(s) listed below:
Employees working in the Service Department were exposed to the hazard of
being crushed by
descending Globe hydraulic lifts in the event of hydraulic failure,
associated with hydraulic
cylinder leakage, on both the single-cylinder ( North side of Service Area
) and the dual-cylinder
hydraulic lift in the SE corner of the service shop.  The hazard was
compounded by the fact that
improper locking devices ( bolts ) were used to  support the lift and
prevent unexpected vehicle
decent. Feasible means of abatement, among others, are as follows: 1)
Totally and completely
re-build the hydraulic lifts to current safety standards 2)  Replace the
above referenced hydraulic
lifts with above-ground electric/hydraulic models, similar to those now in
use in the Service
Department.
