Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to being crushed by falling trusses that had not been
properly braced:
(a) DeFelice's Deli jobsite, 3351 Millers Run Road, Cecil, PA; On May 02,
2001, an employee was injured when he was crushed by falling wooden
trusses.
These wooden trusses had not been properly braced either laterally nor
diagonally
nor had the proper amount and sized bracing lumber been used.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to  Use
proper sized lumber for all bracing; Install all lateral and diagonal
bracing as required; and
Follow the ANSI/Truss Plate Institute Summary Sheet, HIB-91 (Handling,
Installation, and
Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wooden Trusses) during the erection and
installation
of all wood
truss systems.tion
