recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death of serious physical harm to
employees in that
mixing employees manufacturing welding rods transferred Aluminum metal
powder without
removing the possibility of electrical sparks or static charge build-up.
A) Mixing employees were exposed to the explosion hazards of Aluminum
powder
through the lack of prevention of ignition of aluminum powder according to
NFPA 651-
chapters 6,7 & 8.
Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard,include but
not limited to:
1) Ground all machinery to remove static electricity.
2) Bond all metal tools to 55 gallon drum before transferring the aluminum
powder.
3) Bond 55 gallon drum to metal mixers before transferring the aluminum
powder.
4) The use of non-sparking tools.
5) Storage of powder to be in a separate building from the dust making
operation.
6) Storage of Aluminum powder in original, metal containers.g
