General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Metals USA, Inc., Ambridge, PA. The Duracraft bench grinder showed evidence of grinding on the side of the wheel. Grinding on the side of the wheel could cause the wheel to explode causing serious traumatic injury. Among others, a feasible and useful way to abate this hazard is: An education program leading to the understanding by the employees of the serious consequences of grinding on the side of the wheel. Also, a warning sign must be posted stating, "DANGER Grinding on the side of a grinding wheel can cause the wheel to explode resulting in serious injury".
