Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an exploding grinding wheel from the practice of grinding on the side of the wheel: a) Miller Centrifugal Casting Company, 110 Centrifugal Court, Cecil, PA. The left grinding wheel ( as it is viewed) showed evidence of grinding on the side of the wheel. This practice is dangerous and could cause the wheel to explode resulting in possible fatal injuries to the user. Abatement note: The practice of side-grinding can be overcome by training not to do it and posting a warning sign above and to the rear of the bench grinder to remind users not to grind on the side of the wheel.
