Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while attempting to
use the freight
elevator where the interlock on the first floor elevator landing was not
functioning.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to comply with 1969 Elevator Code, ANSI A17.1, section 111. This
section addresses
the use of interlocks on platform elevator doors.
