Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with unstrapping a flat bed trailer's structural steel load prior to checking its stability. One Lincoln Street, Boston, Ma. On or about 10-12-01 a structural steel load on a flat bed was not checked for stability by the driver, and while destrapping the steel load, steel plates on pallets on top of the load of steel beams fell off the load and injured the driver. One method of abatement is to position the pallet of steel plates on the flat bed. One method of abatement is to inspect loads prior to loosening the nylon straps.
