Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: (a)On or about 11/13/01, employees operating the three Joyce automotive lifts in the shop were exposed to crushing hazards in the event of lift failure. These lifts did not have operable safety lift locks that hold the lift in the fully extended position. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is re-install the safety locking devices on lifts #2 & #3 and to clean and lubricate the safety locking device on lift #1 to insure proper function.
