North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)facility - factory installed locking devices for the Globe auto lifts number 1 and 7, serial numbers S90411 and 90410, were defective and not functioning properly, thereby, forcing all weight of the vehicles being lifted onto the hydraulic cylinders for the lifts. (Reference ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990, Section 7-7.1, Maintenance Procedure and Care, paragraph E7. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to inspect and repair all locking devices on automotive lifts to insure their safe use and operation.
