Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to laceration/amputation hazards: (a) Maintenance Area, Machine Shop- The motor starter for the Walker Turner vertical saw #920 and the Sears Craftsman table saw were not protected against unexpected or accidental activation (had toggle switches). Among others, one method of abatement to eliminate this hazard would be to install and utilize a starter control that would prevent unexpected or accidental activation, as prescribed in the American National Standard for Woodworking Machinery, ANSI O1.1-1975 or later edition. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19 paragraph (d).
