Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling from a personnel platform attached to the forks of a rough terrain forklift truck: (a)Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center - An employee was observed working on the edge of a roof while standing on the midrail of the guardrail on a personnel platform elevated 16 feet above the ground by a rough terrain forklift truck. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Comply with the requirements of ANSI/ASME B56.6 which states; Personnel are to maintain firm footing on the platform floor.... Use of railings, planks.....etc., to achieve additional height is prohibited.
