Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a), Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:03/20/01 Location:Baler Platform Condition:Employee ascended two steps on a 6' portable wood ladder placed on a platform 9'8" above the warehouse floor to clean a baler sensor, resulting in an unprotected fall hazard of 11'8" to the concrete floor below. Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide fall protection in the way of additional protective guardrailing on the platform at the point where the employee ascends the ladder. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
