Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling and/or being crushed while working in the bucket of a front-end loader: (a) Employees were required to perform equipment maintenance including, but not limited to, greasing the conveyor drive on the product conveyor from the rotary screen by standing in the bucket of a "Caterpillar" Model 938F or 950 front end loader thus being exposed to fall hazards of approximately 8 to 10 feet and to the hazard of being crushed between the loader bucket and the conveyor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is perform all elevated work from approved devices such as ladders or lifting equipment specifically designed as a personnel lift.
