Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY FALLING OBJECTS: a)760 Kinrei Area, on or about 11/16/2001, the following overhead hoists had a non-functioning safety mechanism: 1.Hoist # 2, 760 Kinrei area, a 635 Lodestar, CM Series 1 ton overhead hoist had a non-functioning upper and lower limit switch mechanism. Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to: 1.Repair or replace the upper and lower limit switch mechanism. 2.Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists in accordance with ANSI B30.16, 1973 Overhead Hoists.
